The legal age of Marriage and Civil Partnership is now 18
If you are under 18 years of age, you are no longer allowed to marry or enter a Civil partnership in England and Wales.
This means that 16 to 17-year-olds will no longer be able to marry or enter a civil partnership under any circumstances, including with parental or judicial consent from 26 February 2023.

If you have an urgent need to undertake a Notice of Marriage for a booked wedding that has been confirmed as being able to go ahead, please email the team at register.office@lbbd.gov.uk, providing the following information:
- reasons your registration requires prioritisation
- supporting evidence such as an appointment confirmation with consular offices, embassies, etc
- your telephone number (so we can call you to follow up)
